Our Choices Determine The Direction Of Our Life

By Kathy Gottberg

Choice.  I firmly believe that we really do get to make it up.  That doesn’t mean that we are free from the consequences of our choices, or that sometimes those choices don’t come from, or lead to, difficult circumstances—yet regardless, we always get to choose our next step.  As Viktor Frankl said when trapped in a Nazi Death Camp, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”  And in honoring the opportunity to choose, I’m offering a free gift to all my SMART Living 365 readers for this weekend only.

As some of you may already know, my most recent book You Get to Make it Up—a SMART Living 365 Guide to Creating A Happy & Meaningful Life was published back in November of 2019.  With the holidays following just days afterwards, I never did an official promotion. (Obviously marketing isn’t one of my strong suits!)  But I do want you all to know it is available and because Amazon allows me to promote it with free copies, it will be available for free as an e-book from today, January 24th through Monday, January 27th.  If you, or anyone you know would like a copy, please go to Amazon and download one.  Even if you don’t have a Kindle, they offer an app so that you can still read it on your computer, laptop or phone.

Of course I would also be overjoyed if you read it and then did a review on the Amazon Website.  Perhaps one of the greatest gifts a person can offer a writer is to take the time to review their work in a visible way.  Because I don’t actually take my books out on “tour” or promote in any way other than my blog and social media, reviews are just about the only way I can get the word out about my writing. So anything you can provide is deeply appreciated.  But as with all choice, I want and accept your honest review about what you liked or didn’t.  With all my writing, I don’t just want a pat on the head.  Instead, I want your perspective—I thrive on conversation.

So please enjoy my gift if you are so moved.  But more importantly, in the words of James Hollis PhD, never forget that we are metaphorically reborn the minute we accept that the direction of our life is “essentially ours to choose.”

Here is the link to your free Kindle Copy of You Get to Make it Up!  Remember it is only available for free through Monday, January 27th.

    Hi Kathy,
Life is about choice…whether we believe it or not. My mother used to say that all is a choice except death and taxes. Well, you can choose about taxes, too, as long as you are will to accept the consequences. LOL.
    Have the book, will read.

Life is all about choice! I agree 100% and have been claiming this often. Our first sailboat was called F/Our Choice/s and I explain in my memoir that anyone’s path – definitely ours – is based on our personal choice. 🙂 As you know, I left a review for your latest book on GoodReads.

Hi Kathy – I’m so frugal with our money that I often miss out on reading books like this (and sometimes they aren’t easy to access on Amazon Australia). I managed to click over and yours was on both, so I’ve just downloaded it. Will write you a review when I sit down and read my way through it. Thanks for your generosity and congrats on another book xx

Great book Kathy and wonderful messages. Thanks. Here is my Amazon review:
Making personal decisions that empower us. Another SMART, easy and highly practical book about “creating our reality…trusting that we can be happy and at peace with the uncertainty of life.” It is about personal decision making and empowerment since we can constantly “choose how to act, where to go and what to do to improve our lives.” My favorite chapter was Chapter 20—but every one of them offered powerful reminders of our own powerful choices.
