Happy SMART Day Everyone!

An enormous part of the SMART Living lifestyle is the daily awareness of our overall well-being.  Do you know how you rate?  Conveniently you can now go to a website named “Twitter Well-Being Tracker” and take a short and simple online test that will give you a score.   Why is it called the “Twitter Well-Being Tracker”?  Probably because you have the option of posting your score on the Twitter website or not.  (Not sure why anyone would want to—but that is your choice.)  A big reason that we think this website deserves attention is that as the busy holiday season kicks in during the next few weeks, it will benefit everyone to stay mindful and aware about what truly makes us happy and content—and the Well-Being Tracker is great for just that!

How does it work?  First the Well-Being Tracker asks questions about six major categories of your life as developed by the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index.  Then, using your answers the tracker provides a score that allows you to see where you excel as well as where there is room for improvement. As mentioned before, the benefit to the test is to emphasize the areas of our lives that jointly influence our well-being, and then when averaged, provide an overall score.  It reminds us that even when some areas of our lives are less than perfect, other areas can either raise our score, or lower it.  Best of all, it provides a graphic example of how the categories of our lives are connected and how our well-being is a balance of it all—not merely one or two particular aspects.

Once you know your score, the website then offers 50 creative and fun ways to improve your well-being score.  The list of 50 ways to do that are interesting and address all sorts of lifestyle issues like health, relationships, work and exercise in order to highlight the fact that our well-being is made up of many things in our lives.    Suggestions include:

1) Make yourself LOL  (Laugh out loud) today.

2) Roll your shoulders gently five times in each direction.

3) Sing a verse from a favorite song or make up a tune and hum it.

It is easy to believe that the elements that create a happy life are the big, important moments that happen every now and then like getting married, finding the perfect job or making that new best friend.  But in most cases what actually creates a happy and fulfilled sense of well-being are the day-to-day details that happen (or don’t happen) all the time.   This website is another great tool for helping each of us look at and remember the tiny pieces that create a SMART life 365.  Check it out and let us know what you think.

“Always leave enough time in your life to do something that makes you happy, satisfied, even joyous. That has more of an effect on economic well-being than any other single factor.”   –Paul Hawken

“The simplification of life is one of the steps to inner peace. A persistent simplification will create an inner and outer well-being that places harmony in one’s life.” –Peace Pilgrim
