Good advice for all Boomers!

This week for the first time SMART Living 365 is hosting The Best of Boomer Blogs #379. My links have been featured on each of the blogs listed below during the last month and I’m happy (and grateful) to now share these writers and their blogs with you. While I realize not all of you are boomers, some of these links should be of interest and help you no matter what your age.   This type of link sharing is called a “blog carnival” and features an interesting selection of news, feature articles, and personal blogs. So jump on the merry-go-round, join the conversation and leave your thoughts, questions, and comments below!

Laura Lee aka the Midlife Crisis Queen has finally found the space where she belongs  and highly recommends that you do the same!

Tom Sightings invites you to creep over to his post at Sightings Over Sixty , for a few thrills and chills appropriate to the season. That’s your hint for how to open the lid, and bring to life the subject of his latest Remember Him?

Current events have been bleak recently, so it is refreshing to read an upbeat news story. Meryl Baer of Six Decades and Counting discusses an interesting piece about a scientific study regarding the benefits of an ingredient in chocolate that improves the memory of older adults. Read all about it in Words That Make My Heart Pound – Eat Chocolate.

You have probably noticed that there are more and more advertisements for hormone replacement therapy treatments for both men and women.  Pharmaceutical companies are pushing their products and successfully convincing Americans that their fatigue and lethargy are not the result of bad habits, but hormone imbalances.  The problem is that there may be real danger in taking hormone supplements.  Visit Modern Senior  to learn more about risk factors and natural remedies that may offer better alternatives.

On The Survive and Thrive Boomer Guide, Rita R. Robison, consumer journalist, writes that students who have borrowed money from private companies are being pushed into default when they have trouble paying. Lenders won’t help them, they can’t get affordable loan modifications, and alternatives to default are temporary, students have reported to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

And as long I’m mentioning blogs that boomers might enjoy I should include a reminder to my last post here on SMART Living—The Third Annual Gratitude Challenge 2014…or The Ten Things of Thankful (TToT)   No matter what our age or our situation we can all benefit by staying grateful for the good in our lives. Want to make it a habit? Join us for the challenge!

If any of these topics sound interesting be sure and pop over to these blogs and check them out. AND please leave a comment and let me know what you think of this kind of “Blog Carnival” so I know whether this is something to do more of in the future. As always, I’m grateful to all of you for reading my blog and for your awesome comments!

like the concept (best of…. Post), funny how such a simple concept, i.e. ‘help others accomplish what they are trying to achieve and you can only benefit’ can be so difficult to see in everyday life. Maybe it’s the ‘reasonableness’ of how we approach life that accounts for this (“…hey, I’ll be happy to help you out, just got this one thing that I have to do…”).
Your Post reminds us all in the only effective way, by example.

    cool

Hey Clark! I LOVE your comment because as you say it is so very obvious and yet most of us tend to forget it on a day-to-day basis! I read one time that the best way to “get” what you want is to help others get what they want. Reciprocity (karma) is such a powerful thing and yet not practiced nearly enough in IMHO. Part of the problem might be that “reasonableness” that you suggest. But I tend to think that it is because so many of us are afraid of we don’t have enough (the whole “lack consciousness” thing) and that if we give anything away, it takes away from ourselves. But gratitude is EXACTLY the opposite!!! The more we give the more we get. It so helps us train our minds to a new and more generous perspective! Thank you for that reminder this morning! ~Kathy

Thanks for these great links! I follow a few of them already, but I may add a few more.

I also love your Gratitude Challenge. Quite independently I recently wrote a gratitude post with the intention of adding more on a fairly regular basis. I have so much to be grateful for and think it’s important to acknowledge my good fortune and those who add so much to my life.
